sew good: something for the boys

Quilts aren't everyone's bag. I always want to make something personal for everyone I know, but it's harder with the boys. There are only so many journals that one guy needs.

This fall I found this great linen/men's suiting and matched it with fun and contemporary fabric- (a little bit of business/a little bit of casual)

Hope the boys will wear them!
(my money is on at least one)

sew good: big-ish

I heard a little guy is obsessed with fish... I decided to sew a life size (seriously, it will be as tall as him) big 'ish' for Christmas. I started with the scales and just used up a bunch of fabric that I had left over from various other projects. It's a bit whacky... AND the tail didn't work, but he's only 18 months old so I'm sure I'll be forgiven.

sew good: nautical throw pillows

This fall I've expanded my sewing repertoire beyond my quilting. I've always been into sewing- I used to sew a lot of things by hand, and in grade 4 my mom got my brother and I constructing a whole sets of summer clothes ourselves. I haven't followed a pattern since I was 13, so I'm not doing too shabby-

This year a number of Christmas presents were done this way. I kind of love making gifts from scratch. Very satisfying.

Going to highlight a few here over the next weeks...

This last week I made these throw pillow cushions for my parents new place:

Figgy

Oh god. It's too easy. Saw this recipe and whipped it up in no time flat:

chocolate sea salt figs

(You know when choosing salt from the array thats available out there these days wound up being the most complicated thing about this recipe, you're onto a good thing)

Melt chocolate
Dip figs
Sprinkle with salt
Chill

That's it! No you know this years secret weapon in the Christmas baking/treat department!

sew good: Von Trapp DIY

I recently recovered cushions for a beloved chair of my parents. I even managed to do so sans buttons, zipper or Velcro- just an envelope covering. I still had to do basic math and line up a textured line patterns, and strangely my rotary knife wouldn't cut through the fabric. So nice to knock them out in under 2 hours though. I have to say I'm pretty pleased with them.

This is the chair I used that awesome topographic fabric to make some throw cushions for my parents new coastal home. To me it's very nautical with out screaming "I'm on a boat!"

Hope you like...funny you should know the fabric for the chair were old curtains. Ha.
